Built like the originals should be.

If you’re restoring a dentside Ford or a ’78–’79 Bronco, you know how difficult it has become to find a clean set of original tow hooks. We set out to manufacture them the right way as a serious, heavy-duty forged component built for these trucks.

These Free Wheelin Company tow hooks are manufactured through a multi-stage process designed for strength, durability, corrosion resistance, and the correct factory-style appearance.

BUILT TO TAKE A BEATING

Each hook starts as forged steel, formed under tremendous pressure to create a dense, strong structure.

From there, every hook is:

FORGED → HEAT-TREATED → HOT-DIP GALVANIZED → PAINTED or POWDER-COATED

The hooks are heat-treated for additional strength and toughness, then hot-dip galvanized to provide serious corrosion protection inside and out. They’re then painted or powder coated to give them the appearance and protection we wanted for a properly restored truck.

TESTED PAST 13,900 LBS

We didn’t just make them look tough. We put them on a tensile test machine.

Two finished hooks were tested:
62.01 kN — approximately 13,940 lbs of force
62.76 kN — approximately 14,110 lbs of force

And here’s the best part:

THE HOOKS DIDN’T BREAK.

At those loads, the hooks remained intact without deformation. The test/mounting bolts failed first.

Because the bolts failed before the hooks, these results should not be interpreted as the hooks’ ultimate breaking strength or as a 14,000-lb working-load/tow rating. They demonstrate that the tested hooks withstood 62+ kN / 13,900+ lbs of tensile force under the tested configuration without hook failure or deformation.
